Advanced Grit Washing Equipment for Halls Head WWTP

The Halls Head WWTP was recently upgraded to include a new high efficiency inlet works, to protect the downstream secondary process.

Project Overview

As part of the upgrade, a HUBER RoSF4/t Grit Washing System was installed to wash and dewater grit from the discharge of the cross flow grit removal system.

The cross flow system utilises an inclined screw conveyor to remove and transport the captured grit. The final product is partially dewatered.

HUBER’s RoSF4/t process is specifically designed to wash and dewater partially dewatered grit with a solids content of 3—10% w/w. The final product contains 90% w/w solids with an organics residual of less than 3%.

The benefits include:

  • Ability to wash and dewater partially thickened grit slurry
  • HUBER’s Advanced Fluidised Grit Washing technology dewaters grit to 90%DS and less than 3% residual organics
  • Reduced cost for grit disposal and less truck movements for offsite disposal
  • Clean grit—no vermin or odour
  • High washout results in much needed carbon return to the liquid stream
  • All equipment is fabricated from 316 stainless steel in Germany
