Another QPRESS® Installation for TasWater
August 13, 2024
TasWater’s Ulverstone Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) treats domestic sewage from the catchments of Ulverstone, Gawler, West Ulverstone and Penguin.
Recently the site was upgraded to increase efficiency and reliability – the works included modernisation of the sludge dewatering system.
Hydroflux was selected to design, supply and commission a set of new HUBER QPRESS® units, with each Rotary Screw Press processing waste activated sludge at capacities up to 21 kL/h, depending on the feed solids.
Project Highlights
- Fourth successful installation for TasWater
- Dewatering of waste activated sludge (WAS), replacing older belt press technology
- Phase 1 Commissioning on un-thickened sludge; 21% dry solids
- Automatic operation
- Higher cake solids than previous belt press technology, leading to reductions in cake volume and the associated transport costs and carbon emissions
- Approx 80% less water demand than the belt press system
Technology Highlights
- Climate Active Certified as Carbon Neutral
- Low speed technology significantly reduces energy demand and maintenance
- Fully enclosed
- All stainless-steel construction
- No need for downstream separation steps to increase capture
- Proven in over eighty Australian and New Zealand applications
QPRESS® is a mechanical sludge dewatering technology that is used to dewater sludge generated from municipal and industrial wastewater treatment plants. The technology reduces sludge volumes by 83 – 90%, depending on the application. Being low speed, QPRESS has significantly less energy and maintenance demands as compared to high-speed centrifuges with comparable performance.
